Introduction
Plumpton College has a long history of providing excellent land based education and training, and attracts students from all over the country. It has a strong tradition of high-quality provision and solid financial performance, which are both essential to enable investment in its activities and to support its staff and students. However, colleges now operate in an increasingly competitive financial environment and alternative funding sources to Government grants need to be found. The Plumpton College Charitable Foundation has been established to facilitate this objective.
Patron
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cornwall, as Patron of the Plumpton College Charitable Foundation. This will enable us to do much more to improve the facilities for students and reach those who might not otherwise be able to attend the College. We look forward to Her Royal Highness's first visit to the College. Download Press Release Nov 09 (PDF, 100kb).
Aims
For many years the Oswald Thomas Norris charity has been able to assist Plumpton College students in financial hardship and this charitable aim has now been incorporated within the Plumpton College Charitable Foundation. Such assistance will remain an important element of the charity’s functions. However, the charity’s scope has also been widened and we are now raising funds to provide grants towards the following:
- capital improvements at Plumpton College which would not normally be covered by Government funding
- improvement of resources at the College
- providing assistance for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities at the College
- College students’ educational trips
- assisting the College to aim its marketing at ‘hard-to reach’ prospective students
Trustees
The Board of Trustees comprises:
- Prof Fred Maillardet (Chairman of Trustees)
- Jeremy Courtney
- John Evans
- Carole Hayward
- Christopher Metcalfe
- Richard Partridge
- Helen Vicary
- Des Lambert (College Principal)
- Jenny Brooker (Secretary)
How you can help
The Trustees will be delighted to discuss ways in which you might be able to provide financial support. The College is happy to recognise publicly the generosity of its supporters and to discuss ways in which this might be brought about. Donors may wish to make a general donation to the charity or to nominate a specific area to which they wish their donation to be allocated.
Any contribution you are able to make, no matter how small, will be gratefully received and will be used to support the work of the charity.
Cheques should be made payable to the Plumpton College Charitable Foundation.
Jenny Brooker, Secretary of the Plumpton College Charitable Foundation, Plumpton College, Ditchling Road, Plumpton, East Sussex, BN7 5RX.
If you are a UK tax payer your gift can be worth more to the charity if you complete a Gift Aid declaration form (click here) as HM Revenue & Customs will allow us to claim back the basic rate of tax that you have paid on it. If you are a higher rate tax payer you can also benefit by reclaiming from HM Revenue & Customs the difference between the basic and the higher rate of tax for the amount of your gift.
Businesses can also claim tax relief on donations of money using Gift Aid.
Further information on Gift Aid can be found from:
Leaving a legacy
Your Will enables you to acknowledge individuals, charities and organisations that are important to you. Should you wish to make a gift to Plumpton College, leaving a legacy via the charity may be a useful way to do so. We recommend that you ask your solicitor to advise you on the best way to do this.
There are also practical benefits associated with making a gift through your Will:
- Due to its charitable status the charity pays no tax on the bequests it receives
- Bequests have tax advantages for the legator’s estate as any bequest to the charity will be deducted from the value of the estate before tax liability is calculated.
We would be pleased to discuss the details of any proposed gift to enable you to gain a clearer idea of the College’s future plans and needs. This will ensure that we fully understand your wishes for the bequest and the form of commemoration you might prefer.
