Research and Scholarly Activity
Research and scholarly activity across the range of the curriculum offered is an important part of the work at the college.
All staff participate in scholarly activity in order to keep up to date in their subject areas and to stay at the forefront of quality teaching and learning within their relevant land based sector. At departmental level there are programmes of trials-based research, undertaken by both staff and students. This work helps to maintain the existing links with local and regional industry through consultancy and joint projects with land based businesses. Details of some of the current and recent projects can be found at the link below.
In addition to the scholarly activity undertaken by academic staff a specialist research group focuses on research in two specialist areas:
- Sustainable agriculture and wine science
Research projects currently being undertaken include:-
- the growing and use of hemp and flax,
- community supported agriculture,
- the use of GIS as a tool for locating suitable vineyards sites in South East England
- Outdoors, health and education
Research projects in this area currently includes:-
- work on water recreation,
- the therapeutic effect of outdoor spaces in the treatment of mental health issues.
- the nature of ‘wilderness’ and its therapeutic value.
Further details of these projects can be found at the link below.
Much of the above work is undertaken in collaboration with our partner Higher Education Institution, the University of Brighton and a growing number of staff are registering for higher degrees as part of the College’s research developments.
