Course Overview
The Level 2 MIG Welding course will enable those who have already achieved a Level 1 qualification or are reasonably skilled welders to further develop their skills.
This course is appropriate for those looking to upskill and progress in the industry. This is an industry-recognised qualification which is sought by employers and will enable you to progress your career in welding, metalwork and fabrication.
This is also a suitable course for companies wishing to support employees to upskill through continuous professional development.
MIG welding is commonly used to weld a wide variety of steel applications, such as cars and machinery.
PPE Required:
This is an industry-focused programme, during which you will learn using industry-standard welding equipment.
Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and equipment:
- Steel toecap boots
- Clothes made of non-synthetic fibres
- A notebook and pen
Welding Gauntlets and an EW Welding helmet will be provided.
Modules
This is a practical course through which you will develop welding skills typically found in industry, as well as relevant theoretical context, enabling learners to achieve welded joints in standard welding positions.
This course will be delivered by one of expert industry-experienced tutors, who will be able to guide and support you as you develop your welding skills.
You will learn the following:
- Produce a butt weld in the flat position
- Produce a tube-to-plate tee fillet weld in the PB horizontal/vertical position produce a lap fillet weld in the vertical-up position
- Produce a tee fillet weld in the vertical-up position
- Produce a butt weld in the vertical-up position
- Know the process and Health & Safety requirements for Metal Inert Gas (MIG) welding
Assessment
You will be assessed through practical assignments and oral knowledge tests.
Entry Requirements
- Level 1 Award in MIG Welding or evidence of equivalent industry experience.
- Good eyesight and physical steadiness are required to safely partake in this course.
- Learners must be 16 years of age or older to attend this course.

Tuition could be FREE
If you are unemployed and in receipt of state benefits, or if you are working and your income is under £25,000 (from September 2024), you may be entitled to financial support towards your tuition fees. Applicable to Level 1, 2 and 3 Part-Time Courses
To secure your place on one of these courses, a non-refundable deposit of £50 will be required upon application. This deposit will secure your place on the course and includes a facilities fee to help cover the cost of running the programme.
