Course Overview
An introduction to practical vineyard work
Viticulture (grape growing) is the fastest growing land-based sector in the UK. The UK wine industry contributes to the rural economy and requires a workforce with a wide range of skills.
Employers are seeking staff who have practical skills and knowledge in vineyard operations.
This course is designed to give you an understanding of daily activities in a UK vineyard. The course will prepare you to succeed in your first role in the vineyard.
This is suitable for any age or background, with no previous experience required. This course is part classroom and part demonstration.
What will be covered?
- Describe the calendar of vineyard operations, including pruning, mowing, canopy management, harvest
- Identifying vineyard equipment, including tractor, mower, sprayer
- Health & safety considerations for vineyard equipment, including safe use of 3-point linkage
- Recognise the importance of soil and describe its chemical, physical and biological properties
This course will be held at Rock Lodge vineyard. You’ll be studying amongst the vines in a working vineyard.
