Course Overview

Expand your skills in welding and consider starting a new career journey.

This course introduces different welding techniques used in industry. You will have the opportunity to gain experience the basics of three welding processes and develop your knowledge of welding.

This course is ideal for you if you are a beginner wishing to gain an appreciation of the different welding processes or if you are considering undertaking a longer programme for a specific welding process and want to learn more about them to help you choose the right path. It is also a good introduction for someone seeking to learn more about welding skills to support a hobby or interest that you may have.

This is a basic introduction which will give you a chance to learn about the three most commonly used welding processes:

  • Tungsten Inert gas (TIG)
  • Metal Inert Gas (MIG)
  • Manual Metal Arc (MMA)

Industry Equipment

This is an industry-focused programme, during which you will learn using industry-standard welding equipment.

Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and equipment:

  • Steel toecap boots
  •  Clothes made of non-synthetic fibres
  • A notebook and pen

Welding Gauntlets and an EW Welding helmet will be provided.

Modules

The course will enable learners to develop an appreciation of skills for safe welding as well as associated knowledge of different welding processes and their applications.

Learners will have the opportunity to practice basic welds and techniques working with a range of materials. The course is entirely practical in the workshop.

During this course, you will gain:

  • Hands on experience of using of welding equipment to practice basic welding skills and techniques.
  • Entry level knowledge and experience of  welding plant used for different welding processes: MIG, TIG and MMA.
  • Sound introduction to  health & safety practice related to welding.


There is no assessment for this course.

Entry Requirements

  • Good eyesight and physical steadiness are required to safely partake in this course.
  • Learners must be 16 years of age or older to attend this course.
