Plumpton College has excellent facilities within its large estate located within the South Downs National Park. You can look forward to a healthy balance of practical and theoretical experience during your sessions. Our facilities include an aquaculture production business (fish farm) and coarse fishery. You'll also benefit from trips and visits where you'll learn surveying and capture techniques including seine netting and electrofishing.

Facilities

Within our large estate at Plumpton College, you’ll have the opportunity for lots of hands-on experience at our extensive fishery management facilities to help you develop your skills. We make sure that all of our sites are fully-equipped with the most up to date equipment.

Come and discover our new fisheries and aquatic sciences facilities

You will have use of the departments' one-acre lake on-site which is stocked with coarse fish. It’s a student focused practical facility that students will be able to use throughout their course.

Plus more specialist fishery facilities

We have a purpose built educational fish farm facility (aquaculture production business) where students can develop their industry skills and conduct practicals, aswell as research the specialist projects such as feed trials and fish breeding.

We’ve also got a chalk stream that you’ll be able to use

We use the college estate to conduct surveys and practicals on both chalk streams and still water habitats. Small student projects are also encouraged and supported, including enhancement projects such as the improvement of trout spawning habitats.
