Annual Student Winter Fair
00:00 - 00:00
The annual student Winter fair took place recently at Plumpton College. The event is organised by students and allows them to design, create and market aspects of their courses. It acts as a major contributor to their studies in design, marketing, sales, distribution and customer service.
Blacksmithing and metalwork students created handcrafted items using a wide variety of materials and techniques. Their exhibits included copper stencilled piecework, silver jewellery, copper and brass exhibits, enamel work and designs encased by semi-precious stones.
Students studying floristry produced aromatic Christmas wreaths, while floral gifts and pillar candles decorated in seasonal designs brought a touch of Christmas to the event.
Cheese samples promoted the College’s cheese, butter and yoghurt making courses. Many varieties of plants grown by students and staff were on sale, including Oxalis, scented and flowering pelargoniums and a range of house plants and festive succulents.
Students on the Supported Internship Programme organised a fund raising for Chestnut Tree House, the Sussex children’s hospice. Hand knitted goods included winter headbands, embroidered elephants and seasonal snowmen.
Students from the Supported Internship Programme at The Netherfield Centre at Ivyland Farm sold own produced cyclamen plants, chutneys and honey.
Plumpton Estate wines were on sale with red, rosé and sparkling wines from the 2013 harvest. The 2014 harvest with its bumper crop promises to be an excellent one for wine.
