Future Fields Showcases STEM Subjects to Year 8s, 9s & 10s

Students from across Sussex were given a behind the scenes tour of Plumpton College as they joined us for the day at our Future Fields STEM event.

The event showcased the application and importance of science, technology, engineering and maths in land and environment subjects via interactive activities, demonstrations, talks and practical tasks. .

Across the two-day event, over two hundred students from seven different schools got involved with activities from a range of our different departments at the college, including motor vehicle, equine, bakery, floristry, metalsmithing, forestry, agriculture, horticulture, animal management, adventure education, and environment and conservation divisions.

We were also delighted to welcome a range of exhibitors to showcase their use of STEM in their land and environment businesses, including South Downs National Park, Crawfords, Forestry England, and Weald to Waves, to name a few. Not only is this a fantastic opportunity for students to begin to understand the depth and breadth of careers available in the land and environment sector, but also for students to start networking and create connections to aid their future careers with science, technology, engineering and maths at the forefront of this sector.

We hope those students who visited us were able to gain a valuable insight into the use of STEM subjects within the land and environment sectors.
