HOORAY FOR HORTICULTURE!

The Horticulture department at Plumpton College were so pleased to be able to donate some of their plants grown from seed to The Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath last week. The plants were used to brighten up the hospital's newly created rehab garden, which is being predominantly used by patients recovering from COVID-19. The garden is particularly important at the moment as patients in recovery are not allowed to have visitors. The creation of a sanctuary where they can sit and look at beautiful plants and flowers has been vital to their mental well-bring and recovery.

Tina Niblett, a spokesperson from the hospital said:

"This is a big massive thank you to Plumpton college for supplying the PRH Sussex rehab centre with these beautiful flowers that have been planted by patients and staff to help with exercise and mental wellbeing, this has given so much pleasure to all and we are so grateful in your help being able to supply."

Rachel Owen, our Horticulture Curriculum Manager was involved in the project and Tina added:

“A personal thank you to Rachel for going through all the do’s and don’ts re: the plants. Rachel was a pleasure to meet and very helpful and informative.”

Plumpton College have been proud supporters of the NHS through welcoming some of their rooms to key workers needing to self-isolate, and our Horticulture department have also been actively involved in donating plants within the local Brighton and Hove communities in support of MIND Charity in recent weeks. Mental health is such an important topic at the moment so thanks to our wonderful Horticulturalists!
