Huge Success at Plumpton's First Bake Off!
00:00 - 00:00
We were very excited to host Plumpton’s first ever coronation themed Bake Off on Saturday 13th May, as part of our Open Day & Spring Fair. The competition was open to secondary school students and we received some fantastic applications with 6 student pairs then invited in to create their coronation themed masterpieces. The brand new training kitchens in our AgriFood Centre offered an amazing space for students to work their magic and their bakes did not disappoint!
Our Principal, Jeremy Kerswell, was joined by the Mayor of Brighton & Hove and the High Sheriff of East Sussex to form the judging panel, and the competition was high.
Winners, Ben and Skaidra from Steyning Grammar, produced a magical castle chocolate cake, complete with roof-top garden. Second place then went to Ryan and Charlie from Felpham Community College and Holly and Maisie from Warden Park went away with third place. A huge congratulations to all the students who participated and worked so hard on their bakes.
Anthony Gaston, Programme Manager for Bakery at Plumpton College said
“The standard of our finalists was incredibly high, showing some great bakery skills and real innovation in their ideas. The cakes produced were all full of flavour and decorative. Some were themed to encompass lots of King Charles’ interests and hobbies. It was great to see such potential in our bakers of the future.”
For any students interested in bakery as a career, visit us at our next open event to chat with the bakery team and see our incredible facilities first hand. Details also available online here.
