PLUMPTON APPRENTICE WINS NATIONAL AWARD

Rosie Masters, a butchery apprentice with Lydd Butchers was named Best New Apprentice, at the Institute of Meat (IoM) and Worshipful Company of Butchers Annual Prize-giving, held at Painters’ Hall in London, on 21st February.

Rosie, who competed against apprentices from around the UK has been working with Lydd Butchers for only 2 years. . She was presented with her certificate of achievement by HRH The Princess Royal, Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Butchers and Fellow of the Institute of Meat. They were also awarded a cheque to the value of £250 and a year’s honorary membership of The Institute of Meat.

The IoM Annual Prize-Giving has been running for over 25 years and seeks to recognise and celebrate individual achievement in the meat industry. Commenting on the awards, Keith Fisher (MB.Inst.M), Chief Executive of the IoM and himself a fourth generation Master Butcher, said,

The prize-giving is a firm fixture in the meat and poultry industry calendar, and the quality of nominations just gets better and better each year. Our aims are to inspire young people to join our industry and reward excellence where we see it. I hope that being presented with their award by HRH The Princess Royal has given all the winners a real sense of pride in their achievement.

Tony Meredith, Butchery Programme manager at Plumpton College, who train Rosie said,

Rosie is both talented and determined to succeed in everything she does. She works incredibly hard and is very deserving of this award. I’m sure she and her family will remember this day for years to come.
