Plumpton College's New Higher Level Apprenticeship
Published on 10 February 2025
00:00 - 00:00As a trusted and award-winning apprenticeship provider, we are thrilled to announce the development of our first ever Level 4 apprenticeship programme.
With most of our current apprenticeship programmes set at Level 2 or Level 3, we hope that this new programme will be the first of many in a suite of Level 4 programmes.
NEW FOR 2025
If you're currently working in the forestry and arboriculture industry and want boost your management, planning, and assessment skills, this apprenticeship is the perfect way to gain the theoretical knowledge required as well as hands on work experience to succeed as an arboriculturalist.
What does an Arboriculturist do?
Arboriculturists conduct tree inspections and surveys, manage tree databases, and evaluate trees, focusing on common scenarios but receiving support for complex cases like ancient or culturally significant trees. They oversee contractors, ensuring safety and work quality, and comply with tree-related legislation and approvals. They offer advice on tree management and legal issues, manage woodlands, oversee budgets, apply for grants, prepare quotes, and handle client relationships.
Who would benefit from doing this Level 4 apprenticeship?
Professionals with previous experience working in the forestry and aboriculture industry, who either have completed a Level 3 qualification in arboriculture or who have extensive experience within the industry and want to upskill, would greatly benefit from this Level 4 apprenticeship.
Delivery of this programme will include a mixture of block delivery on college campus, virtual sessions, and a number of site visits, seminars and guest lectures.
Apprenticeship Minimum Wage
As of April 2025, the Apprentice Minimum Wage will be increasing from £6.40 to £7.55. This is a considerable increase for apprentices, and with many employers paying their apprentices well over the minimum amount, apprenticeships remain a desirable qualification and a smart choice for school leavers and career changers alike.
Apprenticeship Entry Requirements
Clearer guidelines for entry requirements have also been updated for our apprenticeship programmes year. Recent changes now mean apprentices must have achieved certain grades for English and maths in order to begin their programme, with each apprenticeship having different requirements.
In general, anyone looking to complete a Level 2 Apprenticeship must have attained a Grade 1 (or equivalent) in English and maths, and for a Level 3 Apprenticeship, Grade 4 (or equivalent).
