Plumpton Student named as 'Young Beef Stockman of the Year'

Joe Clark, a first year Agriculture student on the Extended Diploma at Plumpton College, fought off some strong competition to win the prestigious “Young Beef Stockman of the Year”award. The event held at the Smithfield Show in Peterborough last December involved Joe demonstrating his skills and understanding of both preparing and showing cattle. Joe entered his "Belgian Blue" Limousin steer and scored an amazing 98 out of a maximum 100 points.
Joe, who comes from Essex, had qualified for the event by winning the Norfolk Show in July and was “extremely pleased” with his result. Joe won prizes including a “show stick”, a show jacket plus trophy and £150 prize money. We are extremely proud of Joe’s success and Joe will be leading out the College Beef Show team this year before embarking on his placement year. Joe, who has a family farm with Longhorn and Limousin cattle, is keen to pursue a career as a Beef Unit manager once he completes his studies and we will support Joe to achieve his ambitions.
