Men's Rugby

The mens rugby team travelled to Hastings for a match against Bucksmore School hoping to build on an encouraging first outing.

The absence of a number of key players clearly affected the organisation of the team as, despite dominating the first 5 minutes, the half belonged to the hosts who were able to go into the break with a 7-0 lead.

The old cliché’, ‘a tale of two halves’ certainly applied to the Plumpton team as, following a couple of positional swaps and identification of some areas to attack, the second period was all Plumpton.

If not for some impressive goal line defence Bucksmore could have conceded 3 or 4 scores in the half. It is credit to their efforts and the persistence of the visitors that it wasn’t until the final 5 minutes of the match that captain Phil Hopkins (Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Agriculture) was able to wriggle over from short-range. This came following some excellent phase-play combining both forwards and backs. The conversion was coolly converted by Phil himself.

The final phases of the match saw Plumpton go in search of that winning score but the hosts were able to hold out to secure a 7-7 draw.

The Plumpton team were disappointed not to come away with victory but considering the changes in personnel and variances in experience, they cannot be unhappy with their efforts or the result.
