Successful Butchery Showcase & Awards held at AgriFood Centre
00:00 - 00:00
On Wednesday 6th March 2024 Plumpton College hosted the Butchery Showcase and Awards following a successful event in June last year, which had an attendance of over sixty butchery retail, wholesale, and manufacturing enterprises. This year's event was just as successful, with over 150 guests attending.
We had Team GB Butchery here doing demos for visitors, and the captain of the team, Simon Taylor, spoke about who Team GB are, what they do, and their qualification for the 2025 World Butchery Challenge in Paris!
At the event, we were joined by trade stands from Natural England, Forestry Commission, National Craft Butchers, Dutch Spices and Porky Whites Sausages who showcased their products with tasters.
We ran the Meat Product Awards for the first year to showcase the best bakes and meat products. We had many great entries into our competition. However, we're delighted to congratulate the winners: Matt Jones - Priory Farm, James Harris & Son, Beak & Tail, Martin Thomas Butchers, Potters Butchers, Alison Bennett – Blakes and Carnivore Foods.
Our Curriculum Manager for Agri-Food & Environment, Alan Johnson, said, "It was a brilliant event to see so many employers sharing and learning from each other, many of which were past apprentices of the college. Our Butchery apprentices did us proud working with Team GB on the day honing their skills.
The amount of entries for the Meat Product Awards is testimony to the passion within the industry to show off the quality of products, thanks to the team led by Keith Fisher, Head Judge (CEO Institute of Meat), for sampling each one.
The trade stands were informative and engaging, and thank you to all the sponsors who supported the event, which will go on from strength to strength, raising awareness of opportunities the industry offers to new entrants."
