Description

Plumpton College is the leader of land and environment education in the Southeast, renowned for our outstanding cutting-edge practice and ability to align delivery to meet the needs of local and national employers. With a significant growth in our student numbers in recent years the organisation has made great progress in achieving its ambitious future vision to be providing ever more students equipped for their future careers in these all-important disciplines.

We are looking for a dedicated person to join our largest academic division for an exciting new full-time role that is part Technician (3 days per week) and part trainee Lecturer (2 days per week). This is an opportunity for an experienced Technician to develop into a classroom role without losing those valuable technical skills. Our established and wide-ranging collection of exotic, small, and large animal species is the hub of the College’s thriving animal management provision with students on courses ranging from Level 1 to BSc (Hons). The successful applicant will maintain the excellent welfare and husbandry in the Animal Management Centre, assist in the preparation for practical lessons, supervising students during practical husbandry sessions, and deliver lectures for Level 1 and 2 programmes, with the opportunity to develop professionally as a teacher.

Please note that we will consider separate applications for the Technician role (0.6FTE) and the Lecturer role (0.4-0.5FTE), but preference will be given to candidates applying for the joint position.

Our Facilities and Programmes

Boasting a diverse collection of small, and large animal species, our centre is at the heart of our extensive Animal Studies curriculum. Our students engage in a broad spectrum of subjects from Level 1 Animal Care through to BSc Applied Animal Behaviour and Welfare. Our division encompasses all areas of theoretical and practical animal studies, including animal handling and husbandry, science, conservation, education, biology, law, husbandry, ecology, and welfare, providing lecturers with opportunities to develop specialist pathways within the wider team.

We are currently expanding our offerings with a new state-of-the-art Animal Science Centre that will mark the diversification of our animal collection as well as host advanced equipment for Animal Management and Veterinary Physiotherapy. We are also expanding our HE provision by introducing a new programme in Zoology and Animal Conservation for 2025.

Our ideal candidate will have experience of animal welfare and husbandry and will hold an animal care qualification. They will also need to be organised, hardworking, and a confident team player who is adaptable and happy to take initiative. Ideally you have experience with a wide range of exotic and companion species.

If you have good industry skills and aspirations to be a lecturer, we will support you to develop your teaching skills through our trainee teacher programme. This will involve a reduced teaching commitment whilst you gain your credentials to become a qualified teacher.

With over 3,000 students, excellent resources, and a drive for continuous improvement, Plumpton College is actively seeking staff who want to make a difference and be part of this exciting phase of our development. At Plumpton College we are Ambitious & Progressive, Enterprising, Professional, Supportive and Passionate about everything we do – if you share these values and would like to be part of our growing team then we’d like to hear from you.

Benefits

As well as a competitive salary, you can also look forward to a great range of benefits including: up to 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata), and up to 5 efficiency days at Christmas; membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme; comprehensive CPD; TOTUM card; Employee Assistance Programme; free onsite parking; discounted Plumpton wine; staff discounts on Plumpton courses; free eye tests; cycle to work scheme; and free use of the onsite gym.

We reserve the right to call candidates to interview/withdraw this vacancy at any time if there is a good level of response. Therefore, we recommend you submit your application as soon as possible.
