About the Role

This role has a 2 year fixed term contract in the first instance.

As our Caretaker, you will:

  • Lead the way in maintaining the professional presentation of our college site.
  • Play a pivotal role in reducing the college’s carbon footprint.
  • Collaborate closely with the Estates team and colleagues across the college.
  • Combine hands-on work with coordination to ensure our facilities meet the needs of students, staff, and visitors.

Your Key Responsibilities

1. Cleaning & Waste Management:

  • Coordinate cleaning teams and manage waste contracts to maintain a clean, pest-free environment.
  • Champion recycling procedures and ensure facilities are equipped with appropriate bins.
  • Step in to support cleaning tasks as needed.

2. Safety First:

  • Ensure compliance with COSHH regulations and maintain safety signage.
  • Act as a Fire Warden and support fire safety testing.
  • Conduct site checks, address hazards, and manage contractors.

3. A Welcoming Environment:

  • Ensure classrooms, communal spaces, and events are set up and professionally presented.
  • Keep noticeboards and lockers tidy and functional.
  • Assist with deliveries, portering, and office moves.

4. Maintenance & Sustainability:

  • Perform basic maintenance tasks, from lighting replacements to signage installation.
  • Inspect guttering and drainage, minimizing utility waste and encouraging mindful usage.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Level 2 English and mathematics qualifications.
  • Confidence in manual handling and basic maintenance tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for cleanliness and presentation.
  • Awareness of COSHH regulations and commitment to safety.

Desirable:

  • Forklift truck or D1 minibus licence.
  • Experience in a similar role.
